Embrace The New Normal In The Journey Of OVARCOMING

Pat’s Journey of OVARCOMING!

Our #OvarCare Recipient, Patricia Moore, from KY, experienced the B (Bloating) of the B.E.A.C.H. Symptoms leading to the diagnosis of ovarian cancer.

B = Bloating
E = Early Satiety or feeling full quickly
A = Abdominal and/or pelvic pain or pressure
C = Changes in Bowel/Bladder Habits
H – Heightened Fatigue

Pat reported the symptoms to her GI Specialist who didn’t think it was a matter of concern. However, Pat continued to experience symptoms and her abdomen kept getting distended, and by February this year she looked 5 months pregnant! Pat visited her regular doctor who immediately sent her to the ER and requested tests. Tests revealed Stage III Ovarian Cancer. The surgery was very hard on her, and Pat continues to experience significant side effects from Chemotherapy including dizziness, nausea, drop in platelet count and neuropathy. Pat has 3 more treatments to go. Pat is BRCA (+)ve and is planning to get her children tested.

Pat is fortunate to have her two children live within 10 minutes of her, and she also has a robust circle of friends who help her out with meal deliveries, household chores and other immediate needs. Pat shared with us that she is a Therapist by profession and it is hard to be the one who needs help. However, as a Therapist, Pat recognized the need for psycho-social counseling while going through treatment, so she signed up for Ovarcome’s Psycho-Social Counseling Sessions. We applaud Pat for her brave choice!

COPING WITH CORONA:

Pat shared with us that she does not go out unless absolutely necessary. Her children follow the guidelines necessary to keep her safe. When her children are unable to take her to the Doctor, Pat’s two good friends sanitize their cars, wear gloves and masks and then drive her to her medical appointments. Pat keeps up with friends by phone or by electronic means. Pat recognizes that this is a great time to get some additional rest, but it is sometimes difficult as she is so used to working. Pat reads, watches TV and tries to relax as much as possible. She is hoping for the pandemic to be over soon. So are we!

Please join us in sending our prayers and best wishes to Pat as she continues on her journey to OVARCOME! Together We Uplift. Together #WeOvarcome! 💙💙🙌

Keep sharing the B.E.A.C.H. Symptoms of Ovarian Cancer!
