Make OVARCOMING A Journey of Positive Thinking!
Back in 2010, Cecilia started feeling that her abdomen was growing and becoming hard. She experienced significant bloating. When she went to her Physician complaining about her condition, she was told she might be constipated and could be lactose intolerant. Cecilia was instructed to make modifications to her diet. But it didn’t change her symptoms as she continued to experience the same discomfort. She finally ended up in the ER and CAT scan revealed advanced ovarian cancer. Cecilia was given less than a year to live.
However, Cecilia got on a clinical trial – in 2019, she is still OVARCOMING! She has had three recurrences in 2014, 2016 and then in 2017. Right now in active treatment, Cecilia continues to stay positive in her hope to Ovarcome ovarian cancer. Cecilia’s Mom passed away a few years ago, and she has a disabled veteran brother. Her nieces live around her, and have been largely supportive in helping her through her chemo treatment, check-ups and taking care of her grand children when she needed the support. Cecilia tested negative with her genetic testing. Cecilia shared with Ovarcome that she has encouraged her nieces to consult with their Physicians on the merits of Genetic Testing and whether they should consider it. She says…”it should stop with me!”
Cecilia shared with us that sometimes she gets weary of the fight, but she won’t give up! She is raising her three beautiful grandchildren who are her hopes to Ovarcome. ” I share my story with everyone to encourage them to understand that there’s HOPE! When I was diagnosed, I shut down. But I realized I have to make Survivorship a journey of positive thinking. It doesn’t always have to be a losing battle. Don’t give up! You can OVARCOME!”
We thank Cecilia for sharing her Words of Wisdom with us and for sharing her story in the hope to encourage and inspire others. Together, We Ovarcome!
