Advocate For Your Own Health To Ovarcome.

Our #OvarCare recipient, Brenda Rojas, a former model and Dancin’ Machine sensation, shares her story with Ovarcoming Ovarian Cancer.

Since April 2016, Brenda started experiencing intermittent abdominal pain. In December 2016 and January 2017, Brenda was misdiagnosed twice. By the time April came, Brenda’s stomach was very distended. In May 2017; Brenda was diagnosed with Stage IIIA Ovarian Cancer. She underwent surgery and aggressive chemo and went into remission for only a short while. Her cancer returned in November of 2018.

Brenda has been in healthcare for 35 years. For the last 20 years, she has worked in the Senior Healthcare market, helping families place their loved ones in Assisted Living, Rehabilitation and Home Healthcare. Brenda went back to work after seven months after her treatment. However, she needed to step back yet again as the impending side effects from the chemo prevented her from staying employed.

Brenda is fortunate to have family support as she goes through treatment for her recurrence. Her daughter stands by her like a rock during her treatments. She is also a proud Grand Mom to her two beautiful grand children, 7 and 8. Brenda had one cousin who got diagnosed with stage I ovarian cancer. She has been proactive about genetic testing in order to inform and protect her loved ones. Brenda shared with us that she doesn’t carry the genetic mutation. We appreciate her efforts in staying on top of her own health and of her loved ones.

Brenda is staying positive through her treatment and taking each day as it comes. She is thankful for all the love, camaraderie and support she has received from her family and friends through this journey with ovarian cancer.

Brenda’s most important message to everyone is to be an “Advocate For Your Own Health. Talk About It! Get Tested. Give this silent disease a VOICE“

Our members are ready to provide compassionate and meaningful support via active listening, providing gentle guidance in navigating the often-challenging course of diagnosis, treatment and survivorship, and in providing effective tools and resources to Ovarcome.
