You’re Here For A Reason: To OVARCOME

This is the story of Sharon Parke, our sweet and spirited #OvarCare recipient. Sharon suffered a stroke in 2013 that affected her left brain and impacted the right side of her body. Sharon recovered from her stroke. In 2015, her annual exam went well and she was on her way to recovery.

In August of 2015, she thought she had pneumonia as some fluid was found in the lining of her lungs. Eight days later, she was diagnosed with stage IV ovarian cancer with two months to live. Sharon didn’t give up hope – in the care of her wonderful physician, Sharon underwent complete hysterectomy and treatment. Sharon also enrolled in immunotherapy in 2018. A true warrior, Sharon has undertaken many treatments to control the disease and also to enhance the quality of her life. Chemo has had some adverse side effects on Sharon, but she remains spirited throughout this whole process. She shared with us that one of the positive side effects of chemo has been the new stunning platinum hair she now has!

Sharon is BRCA (-)ve. However, her Mom got diagnosed with bladder cancer, she was a smoker all her life. Her younger sister got diagnosed with a very rare form of cancer two years ago. Her older sister is in good health.

Sharon’s husband John suffered a heart attack in 2016 that required emergency surgery due to a 99.9% blockage. Sharon’s daughter is a busy Mom to a 2 and a 5 year old, who lives in the area and is able to help out as and when possible. Her husband had to leave work to be able to take care of Sharon full time. Sharon’s older sister has been a great source of strength for the family through these challenging times.

Sharon’s WORDS OF WISDOM:

Plan ahead. Get your laundry and chores done before the treatment – that can give you peace and a sense of accomplishment, because most of us suffer from side effects, tiredness, neuropathy and weakness.

Always Give with your heart! When we were able, we used to give to missions, our church, helped my mother. It came naturally to us. You never know when it’s your turn to receive!

I have been blessed – we receive help from complete strangers that are helping us now. My sweet friend from Church paid for our car bill, and helps me through this journey whenever I need her.

You have a purpose. Hold on to your friends and family. Through the struggle, remember, you are still here for a reason – hold on to that thought and OVARCOME!
