Allocate 90% Of Your Day To Ovarcome!

Dawn Smith, a young Mom of two boys got diagnosed with ovarian cancer on May 19 this year, during a long surgery scheduled upon few tests and CT Scans – she experienced bloating and discomfort for a while, but like most women, attributed the symptoms to being in the mid-40s, to being a busy Mom and to just experiencing work related stress.

Dawn shared with us that her bloating symptoms persisted well over a year – she thought it was diet related, so she eliminated all beans as well as milk from her diet. She thought 2 c-sections later, her body was just responding in a particular manner. Even though she experienced the symptoms for a while, Dawn didn’t have insurance, so didn’t undergo proper check up with a doctor. Dawn’s Mom and Dad are both in good health barring minor age related health issues – so it never occurred to her that her symptoms were anything significant or worrisome.

Dawn’s Aunt was diagnosed with breast cancer at age 80, and her Aunt’s son was also diagnosed with colon cancer. Even though cancer seems to run in her family, Dawn tested negative for her BRCA testing. She is now participating in a clinical trial study and undergoing active treatment. Dawn spoke to us patiently while waiting on her Doctor, and shared how she manages her day to day life with this diagnosis. She is an active Mom to her two boys, and she is working very hard in keeping the balance in life, and in ensuring her family and her kids remain largely unscathed with this diagnosis.

A strong Mom and a strong woman, Dawn says her prayers and her faith keep her spirits strong to Ovarcome. She believes while we should be allowed to be sad and pensive at times, we should all spend 90% of our days being positive. Such a strong and uplifting message!

Dawn sent us this beautiful note below upon receiving the OvarCare package:
“I just want to say a very special thank you from the bottom of my heart. I received the OvarCare package today, and I am off to pay a bill and buy my kids and I some food. I so appreciate what you are doing, and what you have done for my kids and I during this very trying time in my life. I pray God will continue to bless you and all your efforts.”

THANK YOU Dawn! Your beautiful words of kindness will give us the inspiration to continue to strive and enhance the lives of women and families we serve. TOGETHER, We Can Ovarcome!
