Keep Your Faith To Ovarcome:
34 year old Latisha Alexander from Decatur, Georgia, got diagnosed with stage III-A ovarian cancer in April of 2018. Prior to her diagnosis, Latisha woke up in the middle of the night sometime in February, with excruciating abdominal pain. She called her sister, who immediately took Latisha to the ER. After a series of tests and scans, a huge mass was detected in one of her ovaries.
33 at the time of diagnosis, Latisha shared with Ovarcome that her immediate concern was her ability to become a Mom some day. The young, vibrant Latisha, working as a Pharmacy Technician was faced with the challenge of her life. She tried everything in her capability to save some of her eggs for the future. For younger women, the diagnosis of ovarian cancer also comes with facing the difficult truth around possibilities of child bearing. It is not much talked about, as much as it should be. Latisha weighed in on her options on motherhood, including surrogacy by her twin sister.
More than her own treatment and recovery, Latisha wanted to circumvent the challenges around her ability to become a Mom. Needless to say, the physical challenges of the treatment along with the emotional setback of facing the prospect of infertility, Latisha resorted to her faith in order to Ovarcome. She is blessed with a tremendous support team of her Mom, twin sister, older sister, cousins, as well as friends that have rallied around her since her diagnosis. Latisha is undergoing active treatment now to recover from her cancer journey. Latisha is BRCA (-)ve – she was diligent in taking the test to determine her genetic predisposition.
Latisha says she has been praying for her recovery and health since the day of her diagnosis. Her faith in god and the higher power has kept her going, along with the love and support she has received from her family and friends. Latisha is looking forward to completing her treatment and to returning to normal life – she loves to travel, and is hoping to visit exotic destinations in the coming years.
