Rebecca Hopes To Ovarcome

Rebecca Hopes To Ovarcome

This is the story of Rebecca Chavez, our OvarCare recipient from new Mexico. Rebecca got diagnosed with ovarian cancer 15 years ago in 2003. She is currently in active treatment for recurrence. Rebecca is taking chemotherapy and is also in palliative care.

Rebecca had been experiencing painful menstrual cycles for a long time – initial diagnosis concluded her having scarred tissues and corrective surgery was scheduled. During her initial surgery, tumors were found all over her ovaries as well omentum. Rebecca underwent complete hysterectomy followed by chemotherapy. Despite aggressive and complete treatment, her cancer returned three times in seven years.

Rebecca tested negative for BRCA1/2 mutation. She traveled from New Mexico to MD Anderson Cancer Center to seek a second opinion. She has been proactive about keeping herself informed on her treatment regimen. She mentioned to Ovarcome that her care team has suggested palliative care along with chemotherapy to be the best course of treatment for her.

Rebecca is a strong fighter – taking on ovarian cancer for the last fifteen years! She is also the guardian of her only grand daughter. Rebecca’s 29 year old bright and beautiful daughter suddenly passed away from a massive heart attack brought on by early onset diabetes. Rebecca is now focused on bringing up her grand child. Her son is a great support to her during this challenging times.

Rebecca is an inspiration to all of us – for not only ovarcoming ovarian cancer multiple times, but also for being such a determined, spirited, and positive woman. Life can be difficult and challenging at times – but she sends us all the strong message to never give up, and Ovarcome every challenge that comes our way. We wish Rebecca love, peace, and strength to Ovarcome.
