“Listen. Ask a lot of questions. Make your own decisions. Resolve to Ovarcome!”
Carol Knight, our OvarCare recipient from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, got diagnosed with stage III ovarian cancer in March of this year. She started experiencing pain and discomfort from December of 2017. Carol landed in the ER with excruciating pain, only to be diagnosed with bowel issues and was sent home with laxative prescriptions.
When the pain continued to rise, Carol waited past Christmas – on January 1 she had to be taken to the hospital again. By that time her abdomen was tremendously swollen. After many tests and investigations, she was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. Carol had her debulking surgery in August of 2018 and has been on active chemotherapy treatment since then. She shared with us that fortunately she has experienced no serious symptoms from chemotherapy so far. Her CA-125 is steadily going down and she is feeling the best she has in a long time.
Prior to getting diagnosed, Carol experienced fatigue and intermittent back pain. As a text book manager by profession, Carol attributed her symptoms to the perils of the profession, she thought it was probably hernia. She also couldn’t eat much – but didn’t pay much attention to those symptoms. Hre pap smear of course didn’t detect anything abnormal. Neither did her pelvic examination. Now looking back Carol realizes she had every little sneaky symptom of ovarian cancer she didn’t know about.
Carol’s primary message to the community is: “DON’T IGNORE VAGUE LITTLE SYMPTOMS!”
Carol says she realized after the diagnosis that friends and family are so much greater in life than your job and everything else. Time for all of us here is short, so she encourages us all to “pull in family.” Carol and her beloved son have been inseparable since her diagnosis – she attributes her positive outlook and hope entirely to her son. Carol has made significant improvements to her diet, has stopped eating out and has redesigned her diet to be healthy and more plant based. She also drinks fluids to keep her well hydrated and stays on top of her vitamins. Carol mentions she has done extensive research on the potency of GINGER ROOT. She encourages every woman to get on the ginger root regimen! She takes 2 ginger root tablets every day – Carols shared this has helped her more than she can describe.
Fast facts on ginger:
- Ginger has long been used for culinary and medicinal purpose.
- Possible health benefits include reducing nausea, pain, and inflammation.
- Ginger can be used to make tea, chopped or crushed in curries and savory dishes, and dried or crystallized in sweets and confectionery.
Carol also encourages fellow Survivors and Caregivers to reach out to local Support Groups, stay busy, work as much as possible, and seek online support communities to feel connected and together. Carol also thinks it is important to stay out of negativity and sympathy – she had to stop talking to her best friend as she couldn’t handle the continuous sympathy she received from her. It is important to treat a cancer patient normally, without overbearing sympathy and consolation, she thinks.
So as Carol says, “Listen. Ask a lot of questions. Make your own decisions. Resolve to Ovarcome!”
Thank you Carol for sharing your light with us. We all send you our prayers and best wishes as you continue to recover and take on the journey of treatment to Ovarcome!
