Let’s get to know Diana and her inner sparkle.
Q: Tell us about you.
A: My name is Diana Rose. My first name is the name of the Roman goddess of the hunt and of the moon. My middle name, of course, is a flower. More importantly, I was given my middle name in honor of my dad’s favorite aunt.
Q: You’re a new addition to the crayon box. What color would you be and why?
A: I would be cerulean blue. Cerulean blue was my favorite crayon! Though, symbolically, it is like water. It represents the fluidity of water, able to change its path or adapt to new terrain. Like the rain water, it is cleansing and life giving.
Q: What is the funniest thing that has happened to you recently?
A: Recently, my friends were teasing me about not ever seeing ET. I then regaled them in the story behind it. When ET was on VHS my family and I were at a Christmas party and this other girl (Angela) and I were just starting the movie in a dark room. We were about 5 or 6. My older cousin and his best friend (Angela’s brother) snuck up on us and scared the living daylights out of us. My friends then understood my hesitance on seeing it whilst growing up. Even though I’m not scared of it, I’ve never really had the desire to see it since then.
Q: What inspires your inner sparkle?
A: Playing in two orchestras community orchestras (Fort Bend Symphony and Houston Civic Symphony) brings me to life in new ways every time I play. Just talking about music makes me shine. There is a piece for every emotion, a song for every second. It is the air I breathe and it soothes my soul. It makes living with cancer less intense.
Q: Tell us about a significant challenge you’ve Ovarcome? Share your 2 words of wisdom!
A: Probably the most significant challenge has been coming to terms with sterility at age 28. I’m not sure if I’ve completely overcome it, and I’m not sure that I ever will. I tell you this to let you know that it’s okay. This is not something that you just heal and overcome in a few months or even a few years.
There is no deadline to being ‘fine’ after cancer. Honestly, I don’t even know what ‘fine’ would look like. But, if ‘fine’ is taking one day at a time, healing little by little, and doing things I enjoy, I think that I can manage. Don’t crawl in a hole, go out and do things you enjoy, live your life – it’s your life, not cancer’s.
