Be Spiritually Fit & Prayerful, To Ovarcome!
It began 5 years ago in 2013 in the month of October. O’Shunna came back home from church on a Sunday afternoon not feeling too well. Her stomach began to hurt and she felt queasy. O’Shunna thought she had eaten something the night before that didn’t sit well with her system. After resting for a while, she tried to eat two bites of food that came straight back up. She was in excruciating pain. O’Shunna was taken to the ER where she was diagnosed with UTI.
Often times ovarian cancer patients get misdiagnosed – O’Shunna’s story was similar. Misdiagnosed initially with UTI, her symptoms didn’t subside. Subsequently, her primary care physician ordered a CT scan that revealed stage III ovarian cancer.
O’Shunna says that was the day her life changed forever. Since the initial diagnosis in 2013, she has been back and forth between remission and recurrence. She is currently on her 4th recurrence.
O’Shunna has experienced tough physical challenges including a hip replacement surgery, auto immune Hepatitis as well as Lupus. Her Aunt was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. O’Shunna’s genetic testing came out negative. She has a daughter and a son, and she has talked to them both about cancer genetics and the need to undergo genetic testing to determine risk.
Ovarian Cancer is not new to O’Shunna – she has been fighting this battle for the past 5 years with four recurrences already. However, she keeps her spirit high and her hopes strong to Ovarcome. O’Shunna shared with us that being spiritually fit helped her fight ovarian cancer with all her might. She says it is important to encourage one another and not give up hope – EVER. O’Shunna encourages her fellow Survivors to seek support and talk to one another, to draw courage and strength from the others. She says she realizes many make it, but few don’t. But it is important to be prayerful and fight like a warrior. She encourages all Survivors to appreciate help around, recognize good wishes and be thankful for the support from the community.
After receiving the OvarCare package, O’Shunna left us a beautiful note: “I am so grateful for the package I received today. Thank you for the help – gladly appreciated! Truly a blessing! Thank you very much!” We thank O’Shunna for her sweet message!
Please send O’Shunna your prayers and best wishes to Ovarcome as she undergoes treatment and takes on ovarian cancer for the fourth time! Talk About Ovarian Cancer. TOGETHER, We Can Ovarcome!
