Ovarcome Non-Profit Inc. is a USA based, IRS 501(c)3 Tax-Exempt ovarian cancer foundation envisioned to provide treatment support and options to underprivileged women suffering from ovarian cancer.


At Ovarcome, we are inspired by the simple philosophy of support, love, and celebration of life.


Our Dream: A world that is free from the scourge of Cancer.


Our Vision: To be the leading global non-profit organization helping women overcome ovarian cancer and celebrate life!


Our Mission: To raise global awareness, to fund research in search of cures, and to provide financial support to underprivileged women in the U.S. as well as developing nations in their valiant fight against ovarian cancer.

Runsi Sen Runsi Sen,
Founder, President & CEO
Runsi Sen, founder of Ovarcome, serves as the President and CEO of the organization. Runsi lost her mother to ovarian cancer in 2009, and in her memory and with her inspiration founded Ovarcome. Under Runsi’s leadership, Ovarcome has experienced significant growth both nationally and internationally.


Runsi graduated from Rice University in 2004 with an MBA in Strategy & Marketing. Runsi also holds a master’s degree in Economics. She serves as an Advisory Board member of the Blanton-Davis ovarian cancer research program at MD Anderson. Runsi received her early education and career experience internationally, in India. She lives with her husband and two children in Houston.


Priya Bhosale Dr. Priya Bhosale,
Vice President
Dr. Priya Bhosale, Associate Professor of Diagnostic Radiology at MD Anderson Cancer Center, serves as the Vice President of Ovarcome. Dr. Bhosale is also the Chair of international operations at Ovarcome, and acts as a key liaison in developing new relationships and partnerships with international organizations that are synergistic. Dr. Bhosale graduated with an MD in 1996 from D.Y. Patil Medical College, Kolhapur, India. Dr. Bhosale lives with her husband, a two children in Bellaire, Texas.

Alpa Nick Dr. Alpa Nick,
Dr. Alpa Nick is a Gynecologic Oncologist at Gynecologic Oncology Specialists with St Thomas Medical Partners in Nashville, TN and serves as the Secretary of the Board. Dr. Nick also serves as the Chair of the research grant evaluation and giving committee at Ovarcome. Dr. Nick graduated with a MD from Louisiana State University. She completed her residency training at Vanderbilt University where she served as Chief Resident and fellowship in gynecologic oncology at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. During her fellowship, Dr. Nick also received a MS in Human Biology and Patient Based Research from the University of Texas, Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences. Dr. Nick is an active member of several professional societies including SGO, ASCO and AACR. She has coauthored more than 80 peer reviewed publications. Her research interest have centered on harmonizing the management of patients with newly diagnosed ovarian cancer, biomarker development for ovarian cancer, and developmental therapeutics. Her clinical practice is focused on delivery of high quality, multidisciplinary, evidence-based, patient-centered care. She provides minimally invasive surgical options for women with gynecologic malignancies and complex gynecologic diagnoses. Alpa lives in Nashville with her husband and two children.

Jeff J. Borchers, Treasurer
Jeff J. Borchers is a Tax Managing Director in the Federal Tax Services group at KPMG LLP. He graduated from DePaul University and John Marshall Law School in Chicago. Jeff has passed the CPA exam and is licensed to practice law in the State of Illinois. He has previously served as Vice President of Tax & Treasury for a publicly traded company and as an attorney for the IRS Office of Chief Counsel.

Mike Beck
Mike Beck is the Chief Sales Officer and Head of Marketing for Direct Energy Residential. In this capacity Mike is accountable for delivering organic customer growth and is responsible for all facets of sales including customer acquisition, energy sales and channel activities across Direct Energy’s U.S and Canadian footprint. Mike also is responsible for marketing communications, brand management and customer insights & analytics. Mike has 22+ years of experience in the energy industry. He has joined the Board to help raise awareness and join his efforts in the battle against ovarian cancer. Mike has been married to his wife, Bev, for over 26 years and they have two daughters, Natasha and Brianna. He graduated from Southern Illinois University with a B.S. in Marketing and Management and he also obtained his MBA from Illinois State University. Mike enjoys hunting and golfing.

Robert A. Heifner
Robert A. Heifner has been serving in the role of chief executive officer of St. Luke’s Sugar Land Hospital and vice president of St. Luke’s Episcopal Health System since July 9, 2012. Prior to joining the St. Luke’s Family, Mr. Heifner served as CEO of Mainland Medical Center. His varied community involvement include serving on the Board of Directors for the Texas City/LaMarque Chamber of Commerce, Galveston County Salvation Army, Boy Scouts of America, Bay Area Council Executive Board of Directors, Texas City ISD Foundation, and Galveston County Health District and a member of the Texas City Rotary Club. He has joined the Board to help raise awareness and join his efforts in the battle against ovarian cancer. Mr. Heifner completed a master’s in healthcare administration at Tulane University and received a MBA and a bachelor of science from Louisiana Tech University. He lives in Clear Lake Houston, with his wife and two children.

Supryo Sen Andrew Taktajian
Andrew Taktajian serves as the chief legal counsel for Ovarcome. Andrew is the Assistant General Counsel at AIG. In this role, provides legal counsel at AIG and/or its subsidiaries for negotiation and structuring of business process outsourcing and/or captive models internationally, provide support for major strategic initiatives such as mergers/acquisitions/divestitures, internal reorganizations, and complex financial transactions and assists in insurance and regulatory and compliance matters-Life, accident and health, variable, universal, reinsurance, private placements as well as information technology legal matters. Andrew was instrumental in acquiring and approving the 501©3 status for Ovarcome and continues to remain engaged with the organization. Andrew lives in New York and can speak Armenian!

Betty White
Betty White is an ovarian cancer survivor and one of the biggest champions of Ovarcome. Betty actively volunteers within the community to raise awareness on ovarian cancer. As an ovarian cancer survivor for almost 2 decades, she has a compelling story to share! Betty remains actively involved with Ovarcome in raising awareness, speaking as a fellow survivor at events and in fostering the growth of the organization. Betty lives in Sugar Land, Texas with her husband and has a daughter.

Juuhi Ahuja Juuhi Ahuja,
Juuhi Ahuja is the Founder, President & CEO of Wise Men, an IT Services and Smart Grid Consulting company headquartered in Houston. Wise Men works with 5 of the top 10 companies in the world. Juuhi's core philosophy is based on 2 Q’s, Quick and Quality. Wise Men has won several awards for being a valued partner and best Supplier of the year from its Fortune 500 customers. Juuhi holds an MBA from New York and is married to Prakash who owns hotels, and have one daughter Divya, who is their pride and joy.

Juuhi Ahuja Dawn Scheirer,
Dawn Scheirer is Senior Vice President of Capital Management & Strategic Initiatives at AIG. Dawn is responsible for leading AIG Life & Retirement’s efforts to enhance its capital management strategy and ensure that capital is optimized across the organization. Dawn is based in Houston and also spends time in New York where she works closely with AIG Global Strategic Planning on Life & Retirement initiatives. Dawn earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration in Finance and Accounting with a minor in French, magna cum laude, from Georgetown University. Dawn is an avid traveler and is involved with a number of non-profit and cultural organizations in addition to Ovarcome, including CanCare, Texas Wall Street Women, Women’s World Banking and the Regional Economic Development Advisory Committee of The Greater Houston Partnership.

Juuhi Ahuja Dr. Aparna Kamat,
Dr. Kamat is the Director of Gynecologic Oncology in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at The Methodist Hospital. Dr. Kamat is an active member of several professional societies including SGO, GOG and ACOG. She has authored more than 50 peer reviewed articles and is the Principal Investigator for the Gynecologic Oncology Group trials at The Methodist Hospital. Her clinical focus is centered on providing minimally invasive surgical options for women with gynecologic malignancies and complex gynecologic problems. She received her medical degree from the University of Mumbai, India and then completed her Ob/Gyn residency from West Virginia University where she served as Chief Resident. She then joined Baylor College of Medicine as Assistant Professor of Ob/Gyn, where she received the prestigious BIRCWH career development award from the NIH. At Baylor, she was honored with the award for Excellence in Resident Education. Aparna lives in Houston with her husband and two children.

Chandrabali Basu Dr. Anil Sood
Professor and Vice Chair for Translational Research in the Departments of Gynecologic Oncology and Cancer Biology and co-director of the Center for RNA Interference and Non-Coding RNA at the M. D. Anderson Cancer Center. He is also Director of the multi-disciplinary Blanton-Davis Ovarian Cancer Research Program.

Chandrabali Basu Dr. Monica Roberson
Monica Roberson, M.D. is an integrative physician who recently opened The Healing Space. She is a traditionally trained, board-certified gynecologist who completed a two year fellowship in Integrative Medicine at the University of Arizona under the direction of Dr. Andrew Weil. Monica provides health restoration consultation at her facility, Healing Space, to OvarCare recipients who elect this service. Monica also lends her expertise and guidance as a speaker at several Ovarcome educational events. Monica lives in Houston with her husband and two children.

Dr. Schmeler Dr. Kathleen Schmeler
Dr. Kathleen Schmeler is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Gynecologic Oncology at the MD Anderson Cancer Center. She provides surgical and medical care to women with gynecologic malignancies. In addition, she performs specialized procedures in minimally invasive surgery, including robotic surgery, for appropriate patients with cervical, endometrial and ovarian cancer.

Dr. Schmeler Dr. Anirban Maitra
Pre-eminent pancreatic cancer expert Dr. Maitra is the first co-director and scientific director of MD Anderson’s Sheikh Ahmed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Center for Pancreatic Cancer Research.

Dr. Maitra came from Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore, where he was a professor of pathology and oncology at the Sol Goldman Pancreatic Cancer Research Center and an affiliate faculty member of the McKusick-Nathans Institute of Genetic Medicine.

Jaydip Bhaumik Dr. Shona Nag
Dr. Nag is Senior Consultant Medical Oncology at Jehangir Hospital and Department Head Oncology Services at Sahyadri Hospitals, in India. She is the Chairman of Oncology Group-Maharashtra – a state based co-operative oncology group, a member of ASCO, ESMO and ICON (Indian Collaborative Oncology network) and has been on several advisory boards and DSMB’s for drug development in the country. Dr. Nag is also involved in cancer prevention through awareness campaigns and public lectures.

Ovarian cancer is one of the most common in women


Approximately 70% of women with ovarian cancer have extensive disease at the time of diagnosis


If diagnosed at the localized stage, the 5-year survival rate is 94%;

Ovarian cancer occurs more often after menopause than before and incidence increases dramatically with age.


Women who have never had children or whose first pregnancy occurred after age 35 are more likely to develop ovarian cancer than those who have not.


Breast-feeding and taking birth control pills appear to reduce a woman's risk.


In general, the American Cancer Society recommends a diet high in fruits, vegetables, and whole grains, while limiting the amount of saturated fats for prevention of ovarian cancer


Some women may inherit a mutation of a gene (BRCA1 or BRCA2) from either their mother or father that increases the risk of developing ovarian cancer as well as breast cancer. BRCA1 and BRCA2 are genes that normally suppress cell growth.


The rate at which women are diagnosed with ovarian cancer has been slowly falling over the past 20 years.


Family history can be a valuable indicator of higher risk for some women. One or more close relatives with ovarian cancer, or breast cancer at an early age could indicate an increase in your risk.
